F.E.A.R. 3 Title Card

I wouldn't say I was a big fan of the F.E.A.R. franchise, the only one I've actually played all the way though was Project Origin but I did always rather like the creative supernatural moments that made the series something unique.  With F.E.A.R. 3, all that has seemingly gone to shit, with what little horror was in the series stripped back you're left with a very mundane shooter that is mechanically fine but ultimately fucking boring.

"But Wib", I hear you cry, "the game is really fun in co-op", well, maybe it is but it's still a stupid idea.  Taking a series that was primarily a single-player narrative sprinkled with horror and making it co-op was as dumb an idea here as it was for Dead Space for pretty much the same reasons.  Plot is hard to follow when you're not able to immerse yourself fully and don't even get me started on what it does for the horror.  This is all made worse by how bad the implementation of the single player is so even if you did want to play it like the older games in the series (as would be entirely reasonable) you get a horrible hacked down version of the experience.  For a game like this co-op can be an option but building a game around it is just fucking madness.

I could go on for hours about how much this fucks up as both a F.E.A.R. game and just as a video game but since (looking at reviews) we're in a minority in thinking it's terrible, I should probably stop.

Although, one last thing... STOP PUTTING THE NUMBER IN THE GAME TITLE AS SUBSTITUTE FOR A LETTER.  IT'S. FUCKING. DUMB.

In case you couldn't tell... F.E.A.R. 3 annoyed me a little.
